Your base in Reading will be the Royal Berkshire Hospital and you will not be required to move house in order to complete your attachments at the other sites. While at Prospect Park you will be provided with suitable accommodation when you are on call. Other training environments include:
The Royal Berkshire Hospital (791 beds) contains the Trust Education Centre. The “Berks” is a busy General Hospital and contains all specialities except Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurological Surgery but there are links to Oxford where these services are provided.
The Priority Care Trust is responsible for Prospect Park Hospital which is approximately 3 miles from Reading central, contains acute and long stay psychiatric beds.
Sue Ryder Hospice is located in Nettlebed, approximately 10 miles north of Reading. It has 18 inpatient beds and also offers home based palliative care through its day therapy and outpatient clinics.
Duchess of Kent Hospice is located close to the centre of Reading. You are unlikely to have a full placement here but will have the option of spending a week there during your ST3 year.
Community hospitals (Newbury and Wokingham). You are unlikely to have a full placement here but may well attend outpatient clinics there during your hospital jobs and be involved in the care of inpatients during your GP placements.
