Unusual Trainees- exceptions to the norm
Additional Training
Any time out of programme other than annual leave and study leave over 10 working days per year will automatically result in an extension to make up the missed time. Please refer any trainees in this position to panel.
Less than full time Training
Please see the following guidelines re eligibility. The trainee will need to do the whole time equivalent of a full training programme.
Failing Trainees
Expected failure should be known from AKT, CSA, WPBA and Clinical and Educational supervisor---s reports throughout training- surprise panel failures are very unusual. Be especially careful to keep full records (you may have to justify your comments at an appeal). Extended training is not a given, but at the discretion of the panel. It is very unlikely to be given if the trainee has not put themselves in a position to pass- for example has not taken their CSA. They will be moved practice by deanery if possible.
ST4s (or Educational/Academic Fellows)
Funding is negotiated for this on a year by year basis, although it is hoped that the scheme will continue as is for the foreseeable future. Contact Marion Lynch: email@marionlynch.com . Vacancies are usually announced at the TV Symposium in spring. At present one receives £500 p.a. pro rata but do not have to do Tutorials but must do COTs and CBDs. Trainees will usually be required to move from their original training practice.
