Applying for CCT
A Certificate of Completion of Training or CCT is required to work as an independant GP ie. after your VTS year. In order to any work after your VTS end date, locum or substantive post you will need to be in possession of a CCT certificate. Below is some advice from Dr Claire Taylor and Dr Greg Irving (AiT Committee 2009-10) and Dr Jenny Boctor (Reading ST3 2009/10) on applying for your CCT:
- Make sure all the workplace based assessment requirements are met well before the deanery deadline for completion - all COTs/CBDs etc are green, comprehensive learning log, well structured PDP, out of hours sessions completed and documented, ESR completed and signed off by you and your trainer.
- Since August 2007, trainee jobs have been recorded on the e- portfolio. Check your e-portfolio to ensure all the jobs listed including the specialty, dates and full/part time status are correct. It is your responsibility to ensure that the job details are correct. Contact Frances Mann at the deanery (see Who's Who) if they are not. Any jobs before August 2007 which are to be counted towards training need a VTR2 form. These completed forms should be sent to the Certification Unit as soon as possible as any outstanding forms can delay the certification process.
- After your final ARCP panel, a message will appear on the "Progress to Certification" part of your e-portfolio which says "apply for CCT". Pressing this button will start the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) process at the RCGP Certification Unit. It may take a few days after the panel has met for this button to appear while deanery staff sort out paperwork behind the scenes.
- In the meantime, you will need to have applied to the General Medical Council (previously Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board) for a Certificate of Completion of Training. The RCGP will e-mail the link to the online application in the final six monthsof training. The form can be completed up to six months in advance of CCT however if you try to complete it any earlier there may be an admin fee. Have ready a scanned recent passport picture of yourself and of a photo identity with address (e.g. Passport or driving licence) and an updated CV. Also have a credit/debit card ready ---- in 2010 the cost was just over £800. It takes about 20-30 minutes to complete the form with personal details and to upload the above.
- The RCGP Certification Unit check all relevant documentation andyour e-portfolio then make a recommendation to the GMC. The Certification Unit aim to turn around documentation either within 15 working days, or two weeks before you are due to complete the training, whichever is later. However, if documentation is incomplete this may take longer.
- The GMC will verify your training based on the RCGP recommendation then register you on the GMC GP register. They will send out your CCT no sooner than 10 days before your CCT date.
- If you plan to start work soon after the end of your training it may be worth contacting your PCT to find out what documentation is required to join the performers list and get this filled out. Also discuss with your practice manager any admin which may be required before starting your post.
